3G will soon be making its exit, according to major network carriers like AT&T and Verizon. With the latest dates for shutdown announced for AT&T and Verizon as February 2022 and December 2022, respectively, it’s more important than ever to advise your customers about the importance of upgrading their devices – specifically their 3G-based Personal Emergency Response Systems (PERS) – to 4G LTE.

4G LTE is the higher performance next generation offering faster, more efficient, and stronger broadband technology with lower power consumption that consumers will come to demand. Short for long term evolution, LTE networks offers expanded network size and speed through revamped networks, allowing for more powerful communication speeds. These networks provide the foundation for PERS devices to communicate with a monitoring service provider, send fall detection, push alert notifications, firmware updates, and more.

When should I start the transition for my customers?

We recommend starting as soon you can, to ensure continued health and wellness coverage for each of your customers. While the switch from 3G to 4G won’t be sudden (like a light being switched off), it’s best to be prepared so your customers don’t risk slower than normal responses or drops in service, as support for 3G devices drops over time.

What are the advantages of 4G LTE?

One of the biggest advantages of 4G LTE technology your customers will immediately see is a faster network, better coverage, and improved reliability. It offers faster Over-the-Air (OTA) programming and updating (including faster and more complete coverage during travel), and extended life without the need for a service call.  Most importantly, the transition to 4G will enable continued service for the foreseeable future. Both the Numera® Libris 2 and upgraded Numera PERS-4200X console are 4G products that will give your customers faster activation, quick emergency call response, and broader coverage as they move about in the home, or as they travel around town.

Your customers should be aware that waiting to transition may result in a loss of personal emergency response system coverage and capabilities. While the idea of purchasing new hardware may seem like a hurdle for some, inform your customers that 4G LTE hardware helps offset additional costs by being much more powerful and functional than 3G, supporting more capabilities at the edge. 4G also ensures that their PERS device will continue working at the best of its capabilities for years to come. Numera is here to help you with this transition.
