William J. Rutter, Ph.D.

Chairman of the Board

Dr. William Rutter founded Numera (formerly iMetrikus) and currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors. He is also Chairman and founder of Synergenics, LLC, which owns/controls a portfolio of biotechnology companies (including Numera) at various stages of development.  Bill, with two colleagues, founded Chiron Corporation (now Novartis) in 1981, a pioneering biotech firm that developed the first recombinant vaccine (for Hepatitis B), the first sequencing of the HIV genome in 1984, and the discovery, cloning, and sequencing of the Hepatitis C virus (1987). Chiron also developed quantitative diagnostic tests for determination of viral load, a new concept that opened the way for development of therapeutic drugs and vaccines against these viruses. Bill played a key role in developing UCSF into a major scientific institution. He joined UCSF as head of its new department of Biochemistry and Biophysics in 1968 , and helped build the science enterprise during the period of major developments in recombinant DNA technology, based on discoveries of colleague Herbert Boyer and Stanley Cohen of Stanford. Bill has published more than 380 scientific articles and holds over 25 patents. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and has received numerous awards for his contributions to science and the biotechnology industry.

Tim Smokoff

Chief Executive Officer

With over two decades of experience as a healthcare thought leader and innovator, Tim Smokoff brings his unique perspective and strategic vision to Numera as CEO. His primary role is to ensure the company is kept in alignment with a rapidly evolving market environment, as well as inspire breakthrough ideas from the Numera team. Prior to joining Numera, Tim was General Manager of Microsoft’s World Wide Health Industry Solutions Group where he grew multi-billion dollar revenues via strong industry and customer relationships. Beyond his Fortune 50 experience, Tim has also successfully led a variety of companies, including several start-ups, in the health information systems and medical device markets. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and a Masters in Electrical Engineering both from the University of Washington.

Mark Oswald

CTO and VP of Engineering

As Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of Engineering, Mark is responsible for creating and executing a technology vision for the company and will be responsible for its development and engineering efforts. With 23 years in the Healthcare industry, Mark has a highly accomplished track record of designing and delivering world class software and technology solutions. Mark joined Numera from NCR, where he was the Vice President for their Common Software platform. Prior to NCR Mark was the Chief Architect for Revolution Health having been recruited to Revolution after spending eight years at Microsoft where he was one of the first members of Microsoft’s healthcare team. Before Microsoft, Mark was involved in Motorola’s healthcare initiatives and also spent several years at IBM where he focused on distributed computing and transaction processing.

Tony Titus

Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing

Tony Titus brings to Numera more than 20 years experience of building high-performance teams in marketing, business development, and sales for both private and publically traded companies. Tony is responsible for building and leading the Numera sales and marketing team to create innovative and successful branding, customer acquisition and retention programs, and strategic partnerships.  Previously, Tony held the position of VP of Marketing and Customer Operations for Cardiac Science Corporation. He holds an M.B.A. in Finance and Operations from Cornell University and a B.A. in Marketing from Western Washington University.

Stewart Maxwell

Managing Director, International Sales & Marketing

Stewart has worked in health and community care for 20 years across a number of international sectors and markets. He has an impressive track record of securing contracts and joint venture partnerships with blue chip international companies across the world and sits on several Healthcare advisory boards. Stewart is responsible for building and leading the Numera sales and marketing activities outside of North America into new international markets through direct and channel partner engagements. Previously, Stewart held the position of International CEO for Cerrus International where he was responsible for market expansion across EMEA, Australia, China and Asia Pacific generally. Stewart Maxwell graduated with a B.A.(Hons) Business Management degree from Greenwich University, London.

Feroze Motafram

Vice President, Operations

Feroze provides Numera with extensive expertise in managing for growth, as well as in the design, manufacture and distribution of technological products in the medical device space. Previously, Feroze set up and led electronics manufacturing operations for Fortune 200 companies such as Westinghouse and Eaton and, more recently, held the position of Vice President of Operations for Cardiac Science Corporation. He holds a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Marquette University, is certified in lean systems implementation by the University of Tennessee, and recently completed an advanced management program at University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.

William Reid

Vice President, Product Management

As head of product management for Numera, Bill leads the teams responsible for development and delivery of the company’s product portfolio and is responsible for both the short and long range product vision, strategy and roadmap. He joins Numera after having spent over a decade at Microsoft, where he last held the role of Director of Product Management within Microsoft’s Health Solutions Group, responsible for planning and strategy for products including Microsoft HealthVault, Microsoft Amalga, and Mayo Clinic Health Manager (a PHR co-development effort with the Mayo Clinic).  Prior to Microsoft, Bill has had extensive leadership roles in several healthcare and technology companies. He is a founding member and past president of the Washington State Healthcare Executive Forum, a chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and is board certified in healthcare management as a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Bill has his BA from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MS from Tufts University.
